Q. 7. What are the decrees of God?

A. The decrees of God are his eternal purpose, according to the counsel of his will, whereby, for his own glory, he hath foreordained whatsoever comes to pass.

This God who we have learnt about is in control and has a plan. As God works out his plan we need to realise that he is working for his glory, and that whatever takes place in this universe is because he has willed it.

The purposes God has for us stretch back into eternity. There is not a malevolent force behind our lives, but a fatherly hand who is intricately involved in this world and our lives.

We are his creatures and we cannot fully understand this. There are times when we would choose our circumstances to be different and yet whatever situation we find ourselves in, the decrees of God are all encompassing. This truth doesn’t make every situation sweet, but it does make it bearable. This world is not out of control.

In the end God will be seen to have worked all things for his own glory.
